Our first rosé of the season! Jean Orëns Ferraton and his son, Michel, founded Ferraton Pere & Fils in 1946, producing world class Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph in the northern Rhone. Today negoçiant wines from the southern Rhône, such as this fine rosé, are also made. The family's vineyards went biodynamic (super organic) in 1988, and the peripatetic Michel Chapoutier, a friend of the family, lent his expertise to upgrading the vineyards and the wine-making. This rosé is a blend of Grenache (75%), Syrah, and Cinsault from vineyards situated on the right bank of the Rhône with lluvial soils of limestone, sand, pebbles, and clay. It has a beautiful, intense, and bright rosé color. Red berries like raspberry and red currant show on the nose. The palate has a lively attack and displays lots of juicy freshness and roundness with similar red fruit flavors and good minerality on the finish. Not yet reviewed, the 2015 received 90 points from the Wine Advocate: “A fabulous effort from the team at Ferraton, the 2015 CdR Samorens Rosé sports a light pink color to go with classy notes of cherry blossom, light red fruits and white flowers. Medium-bodied, crisp, clean and balanced, it has tons of charm and is well worth checking out.”
